Got an effective problem-solving culture? Get change management and organizational development.

[Excerpted from our article in the June 18, 2010 issue of Quality Digest.]

A recent article published in Quality Digest pointed out that in order to foster a problem-solving culture, managers must serve as mentors and cultural leaders -- building the systems and atmosphere that support and encourage team members at all levels to problem solve effectively.

That is absolutely true, however, once these problem-solving roles are understood, truly developing an effective problem-solving culture will require the following three elements:

  • Adopting a formal, standardized problem-solving methodology for the organization
  • Integrating the formal system into the organization in away that capitalizes on existing roles, responsibilities, andsystems
  • Embracing a change management process to assure people have the training and coaching toaccept and perform new problem-solving functions

For specific tips on developing these elements, see the full article published in the June 18, 2010 issue of Quality Digest at http://www.qualitydigest.com/inside/quality-insider-article/got-effective-problem-solving-culture.html
